Enrollment

Program Types

Before you attempt to enroll in our program, you must have an order from a court or a citation for a DUI.  If your BAC at arrest was .08 or above, you may enroll in our program prior to going to court under the DMV "admin. per. se." law.  If your BAC at arrest was .20 or above and it's your first offense, it will be in your best interest to contact the court before enrolling under the DMV's "admin. per. se." law.

After the date of your conviction, you have a certain number of days to enroll in a program.  Failure to enroll on time will require you to return to the court of conviction and obtain a new court order.  This can add to your court costs.  Furthermore, if you do not enroll, the court system may issue a "failure to appear" arrest warrant.

You must call for an enrollment appointment at 858.467.6810. Follow the instructions given by our automated telephone system and listen to all information first before dialing the Operator (0).   After receiving an appointment date, be certain that you have all the paperwork needed and bring it with you on your appointment day.

Currently, enrollments are held Monday through Friday, except holidays.  Enrollment begins at 8:00 A.M. sharp.  Some exceptions may apply, and if so, you will be informed when making your enrollment appointment.  Spanish language enrollments are held on alternate Thursdays.  Please call for more information.

The SDSU "Central District" DUI Program currently has six program types.  They are the;

Three Month Program (California First Offender)
Six Month Program (California Enhanced First Offender)
Nine Month Program (California Enhanced First Offender)
Twelve Month Program (California Enhanced First or Multiple Offender)
Eighteen Month Program (California Multiple Offender)
Six Week Education Only/Zero Tolerance Program (California Wet Reckless)

Program Rules And Regulations

See the Program's Rules and Regulations for the requirements for each program type, or click here.

The Laws

In very general terms, there are two laws in California that govern DUI offenders.  One law covers the Court's actions as to conviction, probation, jail, etc.  The other law is that which governs your driver's license, which is the Department of Motor Vehicles  (DMV).  If you wish the return of your driving privileges, it's the DMV that rules.  However, both laws must be satisfied.

Fees

The DUIP receives no government funding.  All DUI programs are self-supporting through client fees. The fees must cover the cost of facilities, salaries, services, equipment and all operations.  A percentage of the enrollment fee is paid to the State of California and the County of San Diego.  In addition, a percentage is paid to the San Diego State Research Foundation for licensing assistance, monetary and other administrative services.

All fees are established by the San Diego County Department of Alcohol and Drug Program Services and not by any DUI Program in the County of San Diego.  All DUIP providers in San Diego County charge the same fees.
